The Negroni cocktail was invented in Florence, Italy in 1919 by a man named Count Camillo Negroni. The story goes that the Count asked a bartender at the Caffè Casoni to make him a stronger version of his favorite cocktail, the Americano. The bartender added gin to the usual mix of Campari and sweet vermouth, and the Negroni cocktail was born. The drink became popular in Italy and eventually spread around the world, becoming a classic cocktail that is still enjoyed today. In fact, Negroni Week is celebrated annually in June, with bars and restaurants around the world offering their own takes on the classic cocktail and donating a portion of the proceeds to various charitable causes.
